Here are some pictures to get an idea of what the trains were like. We took several trains during the trip. It was about 25 hours to get from Beijing to Dongbei, 30 hours to return to Beijing, and in between we rode several over-night trains so we would board in the evening, ride all night, and exit in the morning. I was often on the top bunk of three. Thats right, folks...three bunks. The Chinese are really good at cramming as many bodies as possible into impossibly small spaces for long durations of time.
